About the Project
WEBAP, Wave-powered aeration pump was an initiative put forward by IVL to aerate the bottoms of the Baltic Sea. The main objective of the project was the demonstration of a cost-effective wave-powered device, entitled the “Wave Energized Baltic Aeration Pump (WEBAP)”, that mitigates the problem of oxygen depletion (“hypoxia”) in coastal zones. Specifically, the projects aimed at reducing problems with dead bottoms and algae blooms in the Baltic Sea by aeration of oxygen-depleted bottom water layers.

Technocean delivery:
Technocean Consulting AB was engaged to develop and supply a prototype water pump with the capacity of supplying 4 cubic meters per second of oxygen rich surface water down to the oxygen depleted sea bed, 100 meters below in the Archipelago of Stockholm (Kvarnholmsfjärden). We delivered everything from the first sketch to the final full scale prototype used for the project.
