About the Project

To comply with new Environmental Legislation Stena Line have gone one step further than required and invested in new Supergreen technology running the ferry Stena Germanica III on Methanol rather than diesel oil. This gives huge improvements in emission levels as the sulfur oxides and particles disappear almost entirely, and the nitrogen oxide emissions become considerably lower. The emissions basically consist of water vapour and carbon dioxide, making methanol one of the most environmentally friendly fuels that exists. Methanol means cleaner air, and cleaner water. If methanol was spilt, it dissolves itself completely in contact with water, meaning that if all vessels were to run on methanol, there would be no more incidents with oil spills.

Technocean delivery:

The Methanol is bunkerd in Gothenburg from trucks and trailers and a new on-shore bunkering facility had to be constructed. Technocean was responsible for the project management and procurement of systems, hardware and engineering, etc. The bunkering station included high capacity centrifugal transfer pumps, automation and control systems, safety systems such as foam sprinkler, emergency showers, etc and a movable platform for connecting a large hose to the ship.
